Office of the President
Welcome to the University of the Arts, which has been preparing artists and creative professionals to innovate for more than 130 years.
The University has given artistic birth to generations of creative leaders – individuals who pushed against the boundaries of their fields and redefined artistic practice for future generations. They include such luminaries as dance pioneer Judith Jamison, avant-garde animators the Quay Brothers, jazz legend Stanley Clarke, photographer Irving Penn and Tony Award-winning actress LaChanze.
Our institution prepares students to grapple with the complexities of the world we inhabit and seek to transform, both as artists and as “creative citizens.” The University is comprehensive in scope: our expertise and programs range from fine arts and craft to digital and broadcast media; from dramatic, musical and choreographic performance to design and applied arts. That distinctive character enables our community – students, faculty, staff and alumni – to re-define the idea and the practice of a university of the arts.
The quality and rigor of instruction here is second to none – our faculty members are not only superb teachers, but successful working artists themselves. And we are located in the midst of the vibrant Avenue of the Arts in the nation’s fifth-largest city, with easy access to hundreds of exciting artistic and cultural venues and events.
I invite you to visit us and see for yourself what a dynamic and rewarding experience a University of the Arts education can be.
