Painting/Drawing

In the Painting/Drawing program at the University of the Arts, a famously intense and immersive studio experience is coupled with inspiration from world-class art museums of the city and exposure to creative artists of all kinds. Balancing technique and personal expression, students in Painting/Drawing build a professional portfolio of work, explore new paths, deepen their cultural and intellectual understanding of the world around them, and gain confidence in their potential.

The remarkable faculty have been honored by the Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship for Painting, the American Academy of Rome Fellowship in Painting, the Pew Fellowship in the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Their work is exhibited in the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Philadelphia Musuem of Art, the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Immersed in a community of aspiring writers, musicians, performers and visual artists, UArts offers endless opportunities for collaborating across traditional artistic disciplines. 

Who are UArts Painting/Drawing alumni?
Painting/Drawing alumni are exhibiting artists, museum directors, curators, educators and creative directors. Their work can be found in museums and galleries around the world, including the Harvard University Art Museum, Tate Modern London and the Walker Art Center. One alum is the curator of special projects at the National Gallery of Art, while another is the director of the Center for Hispanic Excellence at the University of Pennsylvania.
