Best of Show: The Photo Review

"Best of Show" is the annual collaborative effort between The Photo Review and the Photography program at the University of the Arts, and features a diverse collection of prize-winning work by 16 photographers. This annual exhibition gives the public the opportunity to view the juried work featured in The Photo Review’s 2013 competition issue. The University of the Arts has a longstanding relationship with The Photo Review, an independent journal of photography founded in 1976.

The 2013 competition was juried by Paul Roth, senior curator and director of Photography and Media Arts at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. This is his second stop at the Corcoran, where he helped organize more than 50 exhibitions as a curator between 1995 and 2009. Mr. Roth returns to the Corcoran from the Richard Avedon Foundation in New York, where he was executive director from 2010 to 2011. His experience also includes stays at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, where he organized the Robert Frank Archive (1991–94); and at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Ariz. (1986–91). Mr. Roth was recently confirmed as the new director of the Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, beginning in autumn 2013.
There will be a "First Friday" reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on November 1 for "The Photo Review" in Gallery 1401 and Michael Itkoff in the Mednick Gallery.
