The Photo Review: Best of Show

"Best of Show" is the annual collaborative effort between the Photography department at the University of the Arts and The Photo Review, an independent journal of photography founded in 1976. This annual exhibition gives the public the opportunity to view the juried work featured in The Photo Review’s 2012 competition issue.

This year's show features a diverse collection of prize-winning work by 16 photographers, including Lesley Krane (First Prize), Soohyun Kim (Second Prize), Tema Stauffer (Third Prize), Willard Pate (Fourth Prize), Andrew Frost (Fifth Prize), Justin Fiset (Sixth Prize), Andrew Zimmermann (Seventh Prize), Catherine Hennessy (Eighth Prize), Yoko Ikeda (Ninth Prize), Horacio Devoto (Tenth Prize), Richard K. Kent (Honorable Mention), Ariya Martin (Honorable Mention), Timothy McCoy (Honorable Mention), Rylan Steele (Honorable Mention) and Adam Wiseman (Honorable Mention).

The 2012 competition was juried by Peter Barberie, the Brodsky Curator of Photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and curator of recent exhibitions on Zoe Strauss and Mark Cohen. He was the Horace W. Goldsmith Curatorial Fellow in Photography in the Museum’s Department of Prints, Drawings and Photographs from 2003 – 2007, during which he organized the exhibition "Looking at Atget" (2005) and co-organized the exhibition “Dreaming in Black and White: Photography” at the Julien Levy Gallery (2006). In spring 2008, he was the guest curator of “Close Encounters: Portraits of Artists and Writers” by Irving Penn at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York. Barberie is the author of Zoe Strauss, 10 Years and Looking at Atget, both published by Yale University Press. He was also a visiting lecturer in the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University.

Reception: Friday, November 16, 4 - 6 p.m. in conjunction with the Graham Howe: Color Theory exhibit in the Sol Mednick Gallery.
