MLA Bibliography

A correctly formatted bibliography is a wonderful thing. It lets the reader know exactly where to find the source material you cited. And, as a researcher, you have a map to your ideas. Here I provide basic examples as a supplement to Diana Hacker's A Writer's Reference.

Bibliographic Format
Organize source material alphabetically. Use a single space format for each citation and double space between citations. Indent the second line of the citation (see below). Do not number the page of the bibliography. Pay careful attention to the punctuation marks in the following examples.

Book with One Author
Last Name of Author, First Name of Author. Book Title in Italics. Location of Publishing House: Publisher,
   Date of Publication. Print.

Book with Two Authors (list authors in the order in which they're listed in the source)
Last Name of Author, First Name of Author, and First Name of Author Last Name of Author. Book Title in
   Italics
. Location of Publishing House: Publisher, Date of Publication. Print.

Book with an Editor
Last Name of Editor, First Name of Editor, ed. Book Title in Italics. Location of Publishing House: Publisher,
   Date of Publication. Print.

Chapter From a Book
Last Name of Author, First Name of Author. "Chapter Title in Quotation Marks." Book Title in Italics. Location
   of Publishing House: Publisher, Date of Publication. Print.

Essay from an Anthology
Last Name of Author, First Name of Author. "Essay Title in Quotation Marks." Title of Anthology in Italics. Ed.
   First Name of Editor Last Name of Editor. Location of Publishing House: Publisher, Date of Publication.
   Page Number – Page Number. Print.

Article from a Journal (sometimes referred to as a Periodical)
Last Name of Author, First Name of Author. "Article or Essay Title in Quotation Marks." Journal Title in Italics.
   Volume Number. Issue Number (Month or Season, Year): Page Number - Page Number. Print.

Article from a Magazine
Last Name of Author, First Name of Author. "Title of Article or Essay in Quotation Marks." Magazine Title in
   Italics
