Industrial designer Andrew Dahlgren MID '07 has a vision to resurrect the knitting industry in Philadelphia, which once led the nation in manufacturing textiles. He established his company, ADMK, in his live-work space in the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Kensington to produce high-quality, limited-edition, small-run knit fabrics.

With funding from the Corzo Center's Creative Incubator, Dahlgren is developing creative ideas to re-envision the classic cottage industry model for the 21st century.

"I've coined the name industry design," Dahlgren told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "It's not exactly designing the product, it's designing the process to make the product."

His interest in knitting and sustainable business means he has just as much interest in the beginning of a product as the end result, telling Metropolis magazine, "My dream is to have a sheep farm in Philadelphia."
