As far as class field trips go, sitting in on legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea's rehearsal and sound check ranks pretty high on the "cool" list. And that's exactly what School of Music students at the University of the Arts got to do on Friday, November 9, when they were invited backstage at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts before Corea's concert.

Organized by Professor Don Glanden, head of the UArts MM in Jazz Studies program, the 16-time Grammy winner greeted the undergraduate and graduate student musicians, posing for photos and talking with the group that also included Visiting Assistant Professor Dave Thomas.

A DownBeat Hall of Famer, NEA Jazz Master, prolific composer and undisputed keyboard virtuoso, Corea is currently on tour with vibraphonist Gary Burton in support of their new album "Hot House."
