September 24, 2013
Congratulations to Andrew Wheeler BFA '01 (Film), who served as cinematographer for the short film "Here and Now," named one of five winners in Canon's Project Imaginat10n Film Contest.
The user-generated contest, designed to inspire short films based on crowd-sourced photos, featured Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard, actress/writer/director Bryce Dallas Howard and a panel of judges who narrowed the list of 20 finalists down to five.
The project also invited Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Georgina Chapman, Biz Stone and James Murphy to direct short films based on the photos. Later this fall, the five winning films will screen along with those directed by the celebrity directors at the Canon Project Imaginat10n Film Festival as part of a "Ron Howard Presentation."
"Here and Now" marks the second highly successful collaboration with director Julian Higgins, a classmate of Wheeler's from the American Film Institute (AFI). The pair's AFI graduate thesis film "Thief" garnered the Student Academy Award and Student Emmy, as well as many other awards.
Wheeler has also shot several feature films; commercials for Home Depot, Beats By Dre, Nike, Creative Recreation, the Hundreds and Blackberry; and music videos for FUN, 21 Pilots, Iggy Azalea, Panic! at the Disco, T.I., Steve Aoki and the Dillinger Escape Plan. Several of his music videos have well over 5 million hits on YouTube, with Iggy Azaela's "My World" nearing 8 million. In October, he will be shooting a pilot for the comedy duo Tim and Eric called "Candy Kitchen."
