Staff Council Meetings
Staff Council holds monthly meetings the third Thursday of each month of the academic year in the Gershman Levitt Auditorium Foyer (with the exception of May when we meet the second Thursday due to Commencement). All staff are welcome and encouraged to attend to voice their concerns and to become more involved with campus activities. Any topic or concern may be placed on the agenda by emailing staffcouncil@uarts.edu at least three days prior to the meeting.

2014 Pulitzer Prize-Winning Playwright Visits UArts
Hot on the heels of winning the Pulitzer Prize in Playwriting this month for "The Flick," renowned playwright Annie Baker visited the University's Ira Brind School of Theater Arts for a conversation with the UArts community. Baker discussed her work and answered questions from the audience at the Caplan Center Studio Theater on April 21, with Brind School Director Joanna Settle facilitating the discussion. Read more >>

Professor's Book Is Spring Must-Read
The Blessings, the forthcoming novel by Creative Writing Director and Associate Professor Elise Juska, tops Philadelphia Style magazine's list of "5 Books to Enjoy Outdoors," which highlights five "excitingly entertaining books written by Philadelphia authors." The Blessings was also recently named a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection for Summer 2014. See the list >>

Craft & Material Studies Senior Thesis Exhibition
Features work from Ceramics, Fibers/Textile, Glass, Jewelry/Metals and Wood/Furniture seniors. In preparation for this show, Crafts seniors have created an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise money to pay for the annual senior thesis book. Raffle tickets can be purchased to win a bracelet created by five Jewelry seniors. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20, and can be purchased from Jessica Watkins in the Crafts/Fine Arts offices in Anderson Hall and from Craft students. The drawing will be held in the Metals Studio on April 30 at 12 p.m. More info >>

Lindsay Morris: You Are You
"You Are You" documents an annual weekend summer camp for gender-nonconforming children and their families. In 2007, photographer Lindsay Morris started attending camp with a family member and began documenting what she was witnessing. It was with a great deal of courage in 2012 that the camp parents and children agreed to have selected images published as the cover story of The New York Times Magazine, which jumpstarted an important and timely dialogue in a public forum.
