Allegra Armstrong '17 (Creative Writing) will have her short fiction story, "The Will," published in the Summer/Fall 2014 issue of literary magazine The Same. The story was part of her UArts admissions portfolio.
Armstrong, who is a first-year transfer student, says the idea for "The Will" came to her while she was in high school at Friends' Central School in Wynnewood. Pa. "I realized that young people brush with death surprisingly frequently, and yet no young person that I knew had a will, or any idea how to write a legally viable one."
The story centers on an afternoon in the life of a teenage boy, who scribbles instructions for action in the event of his death on the back of a greeting card and mails it to an acquaintance.
Another short story by Armstrong, "Shots in the Dark," appeared in the Steel Toe Review last spring. In addition to Creative Writing, she is also taking classes in Metals, Book Arts and Constructed Surfaces.
