UArts Hosts First-ever Virtual Commencement

April 14, 2020

Over the past few weeks, UArts faculty, staff and students have risen to this challenge of remote instruction in the midst of a global pandemic, proving that creativity is truly unstoppable. For UArts seniors, the move to a remote campus will mean a new kind of Commencement experience. Though the original in-person ceremony must be postponed, faculty and staff have been working tirelessly to create a virtual Commencement experience that will be live-streamed Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. EST.

Graduating students will not only watch the Commencement, but also actively participate in the event. The ceremony will include all the elements of a typical UArts Commencement, with awards, student performances, a valedictory speech and more. Two honorary degree recipients, who will be announced at a later date, will also address the Class of 2020.

Though UArts is dedicated to making the virtual experience memorable, the university understands that celebrating remotely is not a substitute for in-person celebrations. That’s why, in addition to the virtual Commencement, there will be in-person celebrations held when it’s safe and feasible to do so. Faculty and staff from each school are working on plans to host special events at a later date.

For updates about Commencement, graduating students are encouraged to check their UArts email accounts.
