MFA Graduate Included in Venice Biennale

July 19, 2019

A coral sculpture Kathleen Greco MFA ’15 (Studio Art) created for the collaborative “Crochet Coral Reef” project was selected to be included in the Venice Biennale 2019, May You Live in Interesting Times. “Crochet Coral Reef,” created by Christine and Margaret Wertheim from the Institute of Figuring in Los Angeles, addresses the destruction of coral reefs. A collection of miniature coral sculptures are on display—including one of Greco’s pieces—in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini at the biennale.

Greco is also the inventor of Jelly Yarn, a vinyl version of yarn that shines and is waterproof. Her orange coral sculpture (pictured) was made from that material.

Alex da Corte ’04 (Printmaking and Book Arts) was also featured in Venice this year. Da Corte is a conceptual artist who works in painting, sculpture, installation and video.
