Nicole Bindler is a body-based performing artist whose work is inspired by her training in new dance, dance-theater, Contact Improvisation, Butoh, Body-Mind Centering®, Yoga and Feldenkrais. Her dances have been shown throughout the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Berlin, Tokyo, Beirut, Mexico and Quito, Ecuador. Her work has been supported by Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (through Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts), Philadelphia Dance Projects, Mascher Space Cooperative, the Community Education Center and she has been awarded six Professional Development Grants from Dance Advance.
Her piece “I made this for you,” created in collaboration with Gabrielle Revlock, was a 2011 finalist for the A.W.A.R.D. Show! Their new project “The Dance Apocalypse” is supported by a planning grant through the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, the Fringe Arts LAB and is on the radar of Creative Capital.
Bindler holds a BA in Dance and Poetry from Hampshire College, a degree in Muscular Therapy from the Muscular Therapy Institute, and certificates in Embodied Anatomy Yoga and Embodied Developmental Movement and Yoga from the School for Body-Mind Centering. She has taught New Dance, Improvisation, Contact Improvisation and Experiential Anatomy throughout the U.S., Argentina and at Contact Festival Freiburg, Germany. She is a proud member of Mascher Space Cooperative, thINKingDANCE and Jewish Voice for Peace. She collaborates promiscuously with experimental musicians and composers. Current musical collaborations include work with Bhob Rainey, Gene Coleman, Andy Hayleck and Dan Blacksberg. Her newest project is touring, teaching and performing improvisation with her partner, Curt Haworth.
