Charlie Gilbert has served as both the head of Musical Theater and the director of the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at UArts. He's a composer and lyricist whose shows have been produced in New York and Philadelphia.
Charlie’s 1979 musical Assassins was the source of the idea for the award-winning musical of the same name by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman; you'll find his name in the CD and the published script, and a picture of him with Steve Sondheim occupies a place of honor in his office.
He was a founder of the Musical Theater Educators Alliance and served as that organization's president for four years; through that organization, he's come to be familiar with musical theater programs all over the world, and has taught in Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the UK.
