Why are SMS courses referred to as non-matriculated options?

Non-matriculated courses in Summer Music Studies are geared toward students who are taking courses for professional development and not as part of a course of study leading to a graduate degree or certificate. These courses are still graduate credit-bearing. Non-matriculated students may enroll in some of the same course options available to matriculated students. Those who wish to later transfer credits into our Master of Music in Music Education (MM) program may transfer up to six credits.

Matriculated students earn a Master of Music in Music Education (MM) from UArts upon completion of the course of study. The following matriculated programs are offered through the School of Graduate & Professional Studies: Master of Education in Educational Program Design (MEd), Master of Education in Educational Technology (MEd), Master of Music in Music Education (MM); Graduate Certificates in Arts and Educational Technology. These programs require an application for admission.

How do I register for SMS courses? Is there a deadline?

Registration for non-matriculated students is accepted until a course reaches capacity, or until 11:59pm the Thursday before class starts, whichever comes first. We recommend registering early to ensure that you receive all the information regarding the class ahead of time. Late registrations will not be accepted.

SMS students can register and pay online through Instant Enrollment.

Do you offer a refund policy if I withdraw from a course?

The SMS refund policy can be found in the UArts Catalog.

When will my Act 48 hours be posted?

For credits to post, educators must supply their unique Professional Personnel Identification (PPID) number and submit an Act 48 Transmission Request from the Student Forms card to the UArts Office of the Registrar, available through the university's portal. Educators may log into PDE's Professional Education Record Management System (PERMS) to obtain their PPID and to track credit progress.
